Total sales tax revenues in Steuben County in 2012 were up 2.6 percent, boosted an increase in fourth quarter tax receipts.
According to county Treasurer Pat Donnelly, total sales tax revenues in 2012 amounted to $51.9 million, an increase of $1.3 million compared to total receipts in 2011 of $50.6 million.
Fourth quarter receipts in 2012 totaled $12.6 million, a 2.9 percent increase, compared to the same period in 2011, according to Donnelly’s report. However, 2012 fourth quarter tallies were down 5 percent compared to this year’s third quarter revenues.
Sales tax revenues are divided between the county, the cities and the municipalities.
Total revenues in the cities of Corning and Hornell remained virtually flat in 2012 compared to 2011, with Corning taking in $2.7 million last year and Hornell receiving $2.5 million. The cities also split $2.2 million as their municipal share.
Municipalities split $14.3 million in sales tax receipts in 2012, a $474,000 increase compared to $13.8 million in 2011.
