The Campbell-Savona wrestling team hosted their second annual Take Down Cancer night on Wednesday, January 10 against the Avoca wrestling team. Campbell-Savona won the match 47-27 but both teams were winners knowing their efforts were not without appreciation and success. The team chose this night to be their second annual Take Down Cancer match to raise funds to help in the fight against cancer.  The team sold t-shirts, had a collection jug at the gym entrance, and took pledges and donations towards how many takedowns were scored during the entire match. At the conclusion of the event the C-S team had raised a total of $2,354.00 for their efforts.
Take Down Cancer originated at the University of Buffalo in 2010 when a former wrestler, and team captain, named Jeff Parker was diagnosed with skin cancer in the spring of 2009.   Cancer claimed Jeff Parker’s life one year later in May of 2010.  The wrestling team decided to start Take Down Cancer to raise money to be put into a foundation named after Jeff Parker to help in the treatment and research of cancer in young adults and children.  The C-S wrestlers will donate $1,100.00 of the funds raised to the Jeff Parker Foundation and $1,254.00 to Hike-4-Mike in memory of Mike Francis, Ashlea Hickey, and Collin Knowles.  All were students at Campbell-Savona whose lives were cut short by cancer.
The wrestlers would like to thank all of the faculty, staff, community members, and businesses that supported them in this effort, which is now an annual part of the wrestling season.   Wrestling team members who participated in this project are Dylan Eaton, Rick Emerson, John Fairbrother, Ethan Hall, Ray Noyes, Geoff Hargrave, Kevin Holford, Cody Kuenzli, Joel Rosko, Dustin Holford, Mike Simkin, Nick Simons, Dan McLaughlin, and Bobby Wightman
