The Twin Tiers can expect some significant snowfall starting Friday afternoon, but nothing like what the rest of the Northeast has in store.

“Around here, the storm isn’t looking as bad” as in areas to the east, WETM Storm Team meteorologist Tom Esterguard said.

The Elmira-Corning area is likely to see windy conditions and 2-6 inches

of snowfall starting Friday afternoon and into early Saturday.

To the west, in the Bath and Hornell areas, the forecast is for wind and 2-5 inches of snow.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the entire region until 7 a.m. Saturday.

“The potential for signifi cant snow is there,” Esterguard said, but the forecast for snow shows our area getting off easy compared to New York City, and especially Boston.

“The bullseye is on Boston,” he said.

Still, people should be prepared for wintry weather and hazardous driving conditions Saturday morning.

“Definitely have the snow brushes and snow shovels out, or snow blowers in the harderhit areas,” Esterguard said.
