Today’s weather outlook has gone from bad to worse, with forecasts calling for 4-8 inches of snow in the Corning area.
Areas farther north will see more as lake-effect snow off the Finger Lakes comes into play.
The worst of the snowfall is expected from 4 p.m. today to 4 a.m. Saturday, although freezing rain or sleet could make roads treacherous as early as 10 a.m. today.
WETM Storm Team meteorologist Tom Esterguard said driving conditions will be hazardous most of today through Saturday morning, with “some times of really limited visibilities, (and) lots of snow on the road.”
In general, today is looking like a bad time to be driving or outdoors, and local event organizers aren’t taking any chances.
Weather conditions are expected to be slightly better to the west; the Bath and Hornell areas can expect 3-6 inches of snow.
Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier will see 2-6 inches of snow.
Esterguard said for those in the Elmira-Corning area and north, the message is clear.
“I’d say stay in (tonight),” he said.
