Ruth E. Utter, 94, of Hammondsport, NY died peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on February 1, 2013.
She was born in Dundee, NY on August 25, 1918 the daughter of George R. and Jane L. Henderson Baker. She was married on February 20, 1937 to E. Swartz Utter, who predeceased her in 1979.
She was employed at Hammondsport Central School for over 20 years.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother and lived for her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, was a talented seamstress and was always joyful on the birth of a new baby in the family.
Survived by her nine children, Roger W. (Barbara) Utter of NC, Donna L. (Roger) Wright of Avoca, NY, Gary R. (Sharon) Utter of Hammondsport, Dale S. Utter of KS, Charleen E. (Tom) Carlson of NC, Terry L. (Myron) Turner of Cameron, David E. (Barbara) Utter of Keuka Park, Cynthia A. Comfort and Kim M. (John) Potter both of Hammondsport; 29 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. Also survived by her brother, Keith (Helen) Baker; brother-in-law, Stanley Sleve; sister-in-law, Juia Utter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by beloved infant daughter, Cheryl; daughter-in-law, Janice (Dale) Utter; sister, Martha Sleve; sister and husband, Marilyn (Marvin) Miller; two brothers and their wives, Ralph (Shirley) Baker and Fred (Letha) Baker; brother-in-law, Larry Utter; and sister-in-law, Shirley Solosky.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 11 at the LaMarche Funeral Home in Hammondsport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 12 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff McDowell officiating. Interment will be held in the Tyrone Cemetery. After the Cemetery everyone is invited to the Hammondsport Fire Hall for a luncheon.
