The Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation is the recipient of two generous grants from the Hilliard Foundation ($10,000) and the Anderson Foundation ($12,000) to support the purchase of an ultrasound system for its Emergency Department. The system is portable and can be used by physicians wherever the patient is located. It provides immediate, clear, and high quality imaging when time is of the essence. Images can be viewed and printed right on the spot.
Common needs for ultrasound use include abdominal pain, first trimester of pregnancy, aortic dissections, internal bleeding, pericardial effusion, gallstones, hydronephrosis, spinal taps, abscess detection, foreign body location, and retinal detachment detections. The ultrasound can be used on patients of all ages with the appropriate transducer for specific applications such as vascular, abdominal, vaginal, pediatric, etc.  It is anticipated that the ultrasound will be used about five to six times per day or about 2,000 times per year.
The total cost of the ultrasound system is about $58,000. Individuals or organizations wishing to contribute toward the purchase of the Emergency Department ultrasound system may contact the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation at 607-737-4221.
Both the Hilliard and the Anderson Foundations have supported Arnot Ogden Medical Center in the past and are valuable partners in supporting quality care for patients throughout the region.
