A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly doing “donuts” in the parking lot of Jasper-Troupsburg High School and then crashing his vehicle into the building, causing an estimated $35,000 in damage.
Joseph E. Hadley, 40, of Old State Road, Woodhull, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, according to the Steuben County Sheriff ’s Office.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Feb. 12.
Deputies say they reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a vehicle driving recklessly and doing donuts in the parking lot. The vehicle then backed into the building, causing approximately $35,000 worth of damage, deputies report.
Hadley is scheduled to appear in Jasper Town Court at 7 p.m. March 19.
Jasper-Troupsburg school administrators assisted the sheriff’s office with the investigation.
J-T Superintendent Chad Groff said the district was working with its insurance company and a local contractor to get the damage repaired.
“I would characterize the damage as substantial,” Groff said. “The building isn’t falling over or anything, but we can certainly see spots of light through the wall.”
The vehicle struck in the area of the high school’s technology and agriculture classroom.
