Danielle Neu left the New York State Public High School Athletic Association diving championships as the most accomplished diver in Bath Haverling history.
Neu, a senior, posted a score of 373.80 to finish 15th overall at Ithaca College in Friday’s competition, setting a new high for the program. Neu was 23rd at states last year.
“The kid has accomplished a ton – sectional champion, Livingston County champion – and for her to even score for the section and bring home a ribbon, I’m proud.
She represented Bath Haverling very well,” said Bath coach Sherri Neu.
Normally held over two days, this year’s diving meet was wrapped up on Friday – which put a little more pressure on the athletes.
Only 10 divers hit the state mark of 409.55, with swimmers from Long Island to Buffalo and everywhere in between competing.
Neu’s best score Friday was in her final round.
“The experience from last year helped her, but I think doing it all in one day, that was tough on all the kids, not just her,” Sherri Neu said.
Neu also finished the season 10-0 in dual meets and won the Section V, Class C crown for a second straight year.
