Through out the week of October 16-22, students in the Bath area participated in Teen Read Week, a program jointly sponsored by the Dormann Library and Haverling Central School Distict.
Started in 1998, Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Why is it important to celebrate? For a lot of reasons! Teens have so many options for entertainment, so it’s important to remind them to spend time reading for pleasure: it’s free, fun, and can be done anywhere! Research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce.
Throughout the week, teens recorded the number of minutes read each day and those who turned them in were eligible for daily prizes. Total minutes read were used to determine “grand” prize winners who were announced at a pizza party held on Monday, October 24 at the Dormann Library. Brittany Greenhagen was the 5th place winner; Myranda Hosley was the 4th place winner; Jennifer Jann was the 3rd place winner; Kerstin McClosky was the 2nd place winner; and Kayla Miller was the 1st place winner. Forty nine students read a total of 31,984 minutes during the 7-day event.
