The Steuben County Youth Board has announced that it will present its Annual Youth Service Worker of the Year Award at the Board’s 2012 Annual Dinner on Wednesday, February 8. The award will be presented to Colleen Clancy, School Counselor at the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School in Bath. The Youth Board solicited nominations for the award from schools, youth service agencies, and other youth organizations. Clancy was selected by the Board from the nominations received.
Clancy has worked in the school for over 20 years. He was described by nominators as a positive role model for both students and staff, a “caring, nurturing, and supportive person that her students rely on.” Clancy received a total of 15 nominations from an array of school staff and parents.
At the Annual Dinner, the Youth Board will also recognize Richard McCandless, who is retiring as the coordinator of the County’s Youth In Government Program for the past 16 years. The Youth and Government Program provides local high school students with an overview of the various departments and responsibilities of county government, ending with a simulated legislative session in the Steuben County Legislative Chambers. According to Deputy County Administrator Jack Wheeler, “The fact that a current County Legislator was in the program less than 10 years ago is a testament to the impact that Dick and the program have had. He’s put his heart and soul into the program.”
The Youth Board’s Annual Dinner will be held at the Bath Country Club on February 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the public is invited. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling Bill Caudill at the Steuben County Youth Bureau at 607-664-2119. The cost of the dinner is $19.50 per person.
