Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies Friday, Dec. 7, arrested a 27-year-old Campbell man in connection to a series of fuel larcenies the sheriff's office investigated within the past month.
Jared M. Mendez was charged with one count of felony fourth-degree grand larceny after turning himself in to police. Mendez allegedly stole a 75-gallon diesel fuel container with an attached electric fuel pump from a gravel work site Nov. 17 on state Route 415 in the Town of Campbell. The investigation into three reported incidents last month of the theft of diesel fuel, diesel fuel tanks and related equipment has been ongoing.
Mendez appeared in Town of Bath Justice Court, where he was released on his own recognizance after an order of protection was issued for the complainant in the incident. Mendez is to reappear Dec. 17 in Town of Bath Justice Court. The sheriff's office's investigation into other reported fuel larcenies is ongoing.
