The Food Bank of the Southern Tier announces that it has received a grant in the amount of $3,500 from Raising Dough for Kids. These funds will be used to support the BackPack Program™ during the 2012-13 school year.
In 2002 the locally owned and operated, Hospitality West, LLC, d/b/a Pizza Hut, formed Raising Dough for Kids, a non-profit (501-C3) organization to raise monies for Western New York Children's Charities. Since 2002, Pizza Hut restaurants have raised and donated over $717,000 to Buffalo, Jamestown and Elmira area charities and that amount continues to grow every day!
“Our Pizza Hut restaurants are locally owned and operated and we know how important it is to give back to our communities,” said Jessica Woodburn, Hospitality Restaurant Group, LLC Marketing Manager. “We’d like to thank our guests for being so generous and enabling us to be able to donate this money to so many deserving charities in our communities,” added Woodburn.
The Food Bank’s BackPack Program™ provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when children do not have access to free or reduced price school meal programs. During the 2010-2011 school year, the program served 19 school districts across the Southern Tier, reaching more than 1,400 children each week.
Each week, over 11,000 individuals visit a hunger-relief member agency served by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. In 2011, the Food Bank distributed nearly 7.5 million pounds of food to neighbors in need across the six Southern Tier counties of Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins.
