Bath Haverling’s Ireland Armstrong and Justin Conklin each picked up sectional titles Saturday during the Section V, Class C indoor track and field championships at R.I.T. Led by Armstrong, the Bath girls team finished fourth.
Ireland Armstrong placed first in the 300 meters (42.53 seconds), setting a new school record by a half-second. She also won the pole vault, tying her own school record of 11-feet.
Armstrong placed third in the triple jump (33-feet, 3.25-inches).
“Ireland’s a senior and she dropped a full second in the 300 and showed her true colors as a competitor and to drop a second in the 300 is just phenomenal,” Bath head coach Todd Ludden said. “We’re just really pleased with how she did.”
Ashley Russell placed fourth in the long jump (15-feet, 7-inches) and Maia Schlecter finished fifth in the 1,500 meters (5:34.0), which was a personalbest time. Bath’s girls 3,200 relay team of Julia Longacre, Maia Schlecter, Victoria Shugars and Lauren Cook placed second in 11:02.0. The Rams also got a sixth from the 1,600 relay team of Erin Stibert, Grace Marvin, Sarah Warriner and Julia Longacre (4:48.0).
The Bath boys placed sixth as a team.
Justin Conklin placed first in the high jump, breaking his own school record, clearing 6-feet, 1-inch for his first-ever individual sectional title.
Conklin was also fourth place in the 300 (37.50).
“Justin Conklin had been resting because he had been injured and he really was a gamer,” Ludden said. “He had a phenomenal day for being off a couple weeks.”
Jack Bates was third in the triple jump (40-feet, 5.5-inches) for a new personal best distance. He was also fifth in the long jump (19-1.75).
Bath’s 800 relay of Justin Conklin, Trey Fitzgerald, Jack Bates and Will Black finished fifth in 1:42.41. The Rams 3,200 relay team of Noah Schuster, Murray Wright, Sean Morris and Tre Walters took sixth in 9:50.
State qualifiers will be held at R.I.T. Friday.
