Bath Haverling put up a valiant fight, but could not dig its way out of a 15-3 firstquarter hole it found itself in Monday in a 53-44 Section V, Class B2 semifinal loss to Greece Odyssey.
The Rams, the fifth seed in the bracket, fell behind the top-seeded Leopards early on.
'This game was kind of a David vs. Goliathtype matchup,' Bath head coach Randy Abrams said. 'We aren't a very tall team and Greece Odyssey starts a 6-1, 6-0 and 5-10 girls. We came out and played tight.' Bath settled down and actually outscored Greece Odyssey 41-38 the final three quarters. The Rams were led by 12 points -- all 3-pointers — from Madelyn Czajkowski, as well as 12 points from Mackenzie Smith. Smith also led Bath with 15 rebounds in the game.
'Our girls worked hard and didn't quit and I'm very proud of that,' Abrams said.
With 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, Bath even cut the Leopards' lead to 45-42.
'But Odyssey made their foul shots at the end and that was really the difference,' Abrams added.
Karissa Birthwright led the Leopards with 23 points. Teammate Taylor Burns was next with 12 points.
