A Dansville bus has resigned following a dragging incident. The Dansville Central School District confirmed that John Coley, 62, of Wayland, stepped down Friday, Jan. 27.
Coley was driving a school bus down State Route 436 in the Town of Ossian Jan. 26 when he accidently dragged 8-year-old Haley Heath for 900 feet. Heath’s backpack was reportedly trapped in the bus’s door.
She suffered abrasions and was transported to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Coley, who had an eight-year safe driving record with the district, was placed on administrative leave. The district is currently undergoing a transportation safety audit.
In a statement released last week, Superintendent Paul Alioto said driver error was suspected, but “the district will also examine the possibility of equipment failure, review procedural safeguards and our safety training regimen.”
