Alfred-Almond came out on top of two matches that ultimately swung the match in the Eagles’ favor Thursday, beating host Campbell- Savona 46-33 in an SCAA wrestling meet.
Hunter Chamberlain scored a 5-1 decision in the 99-pound class and Logan Calkins won the 138-pound class with a razor-thin 7-6 decision, putting Alfred-Almond in the driver seat for the rest of the match.
“They were key wins for them. Those were ones we were expecting to win and their kids popped up on top of it tonight,” said Campbell-Savona coach Kevin Rosko. “We had a couple weight classes where we expected pins, but only got decisions – that was the story of the match.”
The Eagles (30-6, 5-1) also got wins from Jake Chamberlain (113 pounds), Colin Johnson (145), Hunter Kolesar (152) and Kieth Vossburg (182). Campbell-Savona (13-17, 4-3) was led by Ethan Hall’s 46-second pin at 106 pounds, Kevin Holford’s 12-7 decision at 195 pounds and Ray Noyes’ pin in 1:33 minutes at 285 pounds.
Campbell-Savona will host the Section IV, Class CC meet on Feb. 1.
