CCC notes student leadership scholarship award winners

Corning Community College is pleased to announce the Spring 2013 Student Leadership Scholarship Award recipients. The applicants must minimally have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and demonstrate some combination of the following:  service to the Student Association as an officer or in a leadership role, service on a college committee or project, community leadership, communication skills, organizational skills, decision-making skills, time management, and promotion of or active participation in student life.
• Matthew Kelly received a $1,000 award. Mr. Kelly is in the Computer Information Science program and carries a 3.94 cumulative GPA. Kelly is the New Student Orientation Leader. He has served as a Student Trustee on the College’s Regional Board of Trustees as well as several other CCC committees, including the SUNY Student Assembly Caucus, the Diversity Council, the Calendar Committee, the Director of Residence Life Search Committee, and the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence Committee. He was also selected as the student speaker for CCC President Dr. Katherine P. Douglas' inauguration.
• Mark Clements also received a $1,000 award.  Clements is in the Nursing program and holds a 3.82 cumulative GPA. Mr. Clements works at a home for the elderly 12 to 15 hours per week and volunteers with the Pennsylvania Parks as a conservationist. He is a CCC Psychology/Sociology Representative and he organized a bake sale for Hurricane Katrina victims.
• Thomas Peer received a $500 award. Mr. Peer is in the Humanities and Social Sciences program and has earned a 3.43 cumulative GPA. He was a Student Senator in Fall 2012 and is Speaker of the Student Senate in Spring 2013. Peer also served on several CCC committees, including Director of Residence Life Search Committee, the Safety Committee, and the Educational Policies Committee.
• Francis LaLomia received a $500 award. LaLomia is in the Business Administration program and has achieved a 4.0 cumulative GPA. He served as a Student Senator in Fall 2012 and the Deputy Speaker of the Senate in Spring 2013. Mr. LaLomia served on the Director of Residence Life Search Committee and the Assessment Committee, and is interested in serving on a Student Housing committee if and when one is formed.
