Bernard “Royce” Jones, age 70, formerly of Haskinsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at his home in The Villages, Florida.

Bernard “Royce” Jones, age 70, formerly of Haskinsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at his home in The Villages, Florida. Born in 1946, he graduated from Avoca Central School in 1965, where he played basketball, baseball, and soccer, ran track, participated in the marching band and served as Class President. Royce went on to earn a Bachelors and Masters in Computer Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1970.  He enjoyed a long and interesting career in both computer programming and sales, working with AT&T, NCR and EMC in Denver, Colorado and Atlanta, Georgia. 

Royce’s talents were many, and he had a zest for life. He was renowned for his sense of humor and infectious laugh, loved to cook for and entertain family and friends, enjoyed travel and beach adventures, rode on a float in a Mardi Gras parade, and was especially passionate about Penn State Nittany Lion football. 

Royce is preceded in death by his parents Bernard Cook Jones and Ruby Sick Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Kirsten Jones Shuford and her husband Mac Shuford; grandchildren Haley and Jack Shuford; his sisters Lois Jones Karr and Bernadine Jones Jack; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 21st at Haskinsville Wesleyan Church, 8727 Haskinsville Road, Cohocton, NY with the Rev. Tammie Swaney officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall following the service.
