George W. Slayton, 85, of Penn Yan, formerly of Bath, died Saturday June 24, 2017 at the VAMC.

George W. Slayton, 85, of Penn Yan, formerly of Bath, died Saturday June 24, 2017 at the VAMC.  He was born in Avoca on November 28, 1931 to Elwin and Evelyn Slayton. 

He served active duty in the Army from 1954 - 1956 and remained in the Reserves until 1962.  

He had many jobs in his lifetime, including ownership of a bowling alley in Arizona.  He also served as Deputy Sheriff for Steuben County and worked at the jail. George loved to be outside working. He took to mowing lawns for others, doing 8 to 9 lawns just last year. 

George was predeceased by his sisters Joyce, Angelo and Elnora Lewis and his brother Jack
Slayton.

Surviving is his wife Laura (Northrup) Slayton, two sons, Tim Slayton and Edward Morse, three daughters, Mary (Liz) Chapman, Dorothy Dowing, Barbara Paula and a step-son, Robert Northrop.  Brother Gerald (Noreen) Slayton, sisters, Marjorie Fox and Betty Ann Tabory.  Grandchildren, Amber, Cody, Robert, Catherine and Alec.  

Calling hours will be held at LaMarche Funeral Home on July 6th from 11:00-12:30.  Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm at the Bath National Cemetery with military honors.  Luncheon to follow at Hammondsport Legion.
