W.T. was born on January 3, 1938 in Atlanta GA and moved to Hammondsport in 1965. He was the son of Jesse A. Young and Mary Fowler Young. He married the love of his life, Doris Bartoo, on March 10, 1962 in Eatonton, GA. Together, they enjoyed raising four sons.

He served his state and country, first in the National Guard in GA and NY, and then in the US Army Reserves 98th Division as a drill sergeant. He retired after 30 years of service.

He had a strong work ethic. He worked construction for many years as a highly skilled bulldozer operator with Hakes Brothers and then RC Billings. He was proud of his work, often pointing out the myriad of local projects he had worked on to his kids.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Young; his sons, William of Bath, Richard (Lisa) of Newport News, VA, Dennis (Pam) of Cohocton, Tim (Janelle) of Spencerport; grandchildren Chris, Cora, Hunter, Tyler, Thomas, Jazmine, and Landon; great grandchild Jackson; brothers Benny and Roy; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Marshall and Jimmy.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, spending time with his wife, sons and grandchildren, volunteering to help others through the Hammondsport Community Services, working in the garden, and raising thousands of boxwood shrubs. W.T. was always a very good person, friend, husband and dad.
