Jack Duane Fairbrother, 85, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2018 from a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jack was born on Nov. 16, 1932 in Cohocton, NY. He is predeceased by his loving wife Geraldine M. Fairbrother (O’Dell), Father, Lee Fairbrother, Mother, Marie Fairbrother (Cook), brothers; Marcus, Warren, Donald and Paul Fairbrother, sisters; Phyllis Mehlenbacher and Patricia Kimball. Jack is survived by sisters Quanita Hanson and Laura Mehlenbacher, his children; Garry Fairbrother (Sandi), Marty Fairbrother (Michelle), Judy McCormick (Harry), Pete Fairbrother (Maryanne) and Jill Cermak (Chris). Grandchildren; Tami, Brian, Mathew, Brad, Lacy, Bridgette, Casey, Luke, Austin, Hunter, Jennelle, Makenzie, Rylee, several great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special care provider and friend, Sis Clark.
Jack and Jerrie were married at the ages of 19 and 16.
Together they built a beautiful home and farm on Fairbrother Road in Avoca, where they raised five children. Jack was an extremely hard worker and after his farming career he pursued carpentry, building anything from barns to birdhouses. While working in construction he worked side by side with his close friend Lynn Smith and Lynn’s son Gary. Jack was an avid deer hunter, always enjoyed a good poker game, horse racing, going to the casino and going out to dinner. Jack is now resting peacefully and pain free with his loving wife of 65 years.
Calling hours will be from 1-3pm on Saturday February 3 at LaMarche Funeral Home in Hammondsport.
Memorial service to follow at 3pm. Rev. Paul J. Rowley officiating.
There will be a luncheon at the Hammondsport Fire Department on State Route 54 immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FLSPCA in Jack’s honor.
