Roena Anna Geitner, 75, of Avoca, was reunited in Heaven on July 18, 2018 with her soulmate Donald Andrew Sienkiewicz who predeceased her in 1967.

Roena Anna Geitner, 75, of Avoca, was reunited in Heaven on July 18, 2018 with her soulmate Donald Andrew Sienkiewicz who predeceased her in 1967. She passed peacefully with dignity and surrounded by love and her family.  She was born in June of 1943 in Gilboa, NY.

Roena spent her entire life selflessly caring for her children and all who knew her, always putting others before herself. Over her lifetime she loved fishing and camping (always remembering her summers with family at Bear Gulch camp as a child), bowling, cooking for her family, snowmobiling, spending time by the ocean, all things seafood, getting into trouble with her sisters-in-law, but especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two of the greatest highlights of her life was being chosen at age 4 by her parents, Clarence and Beatrice MacMullen then finding and reuniting at age 59 with her 9 birth siblings.  She was a member of the Steuben County Women’s group and enjoyed volunteering with them to help raise funds for charities such as the Steuben County SPCA and the local Domestic Violence Women’s Shelter. Though most of her life was spent as wife and mother, she was also employed at several jobs including as the Office Manager for J & F Chevy-Olds in Attica, NY.

She was predeceased in life by her parents and her siblings including Robert MacDonald and Louie Egnor and her stepson, Robert Geitner, Jr.

She is survived by her loyal and faithful canine companion, Bailey; children, Coleen (Kevin) Tuttle of Avoca, Mark (Genia) Sienkiewicz of Anchorage, AK, Kathy Phelps (Dean McArthur) of Lancaster, Wendy (Craig) Yackeren of Alexander; Stepchildren, Julie (Sam) Scarborough of Basom, Daneen Geitner of Leroy, Rob Normyle of Fall River, MA and Matt Normyle of Chicago, IL; Sisters Dawn MacMullen of Rochester and Jackie Krause of Cobleskill and Grandchildren Ryan Spencer, Anthony Sellick, Nicholas Yackeren, Austin Yackeren, Sofia Sienkiewicz, Matthew Tuttle and Rebecca Tuttle; Sister -in-law and partner in crime, Norma Lee MacDonald of Denton, MD; Great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and many others who were privileged to call her Nana, Mom, Sister, Aunt, or friend.

The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Roena Anna Geitner.

Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Also, Roena and her family were helped in the last months of her cancer journey by Steuben CareFirst (hospice). The amazing work of the staff & nurses allowed her to enjoy her time at home with the best quality of life possible. Since CareFirst does not allow gifts of value to staff, the family is establishing a scholarship to help further the educational needs of the healthcare staff. Other patients and their families will be able to donate to this fund in the future. Memorials may be made to:  CareFirst – Roena A. Geitner Educational Scholarship Fund, 3805 Meads Creek Rd. Painted Post, NY 14870 or to the Steuben County SPCA 72 Cameron St. Bath, NY 14810 in her name.
