Mary Z. Hauryski, 87, formally of 106 Gansevoort Street, Bath, New York, died peacefully Wednesday July 28, 2010 at the Taylor Health Care Center after a short illness.
Mary was born Feb. 24, 1923 at the family homestead on Mount Washington in the Town of Urbana the youngest of nine children to the late Michael and Victoria Kudra Zyla. Mary graduated in 1943 from Savona Central School and married John Hauryski on Aug. 28, 1943 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bradford. John predeceased her in Dec. of 2004. John and Mary celebrated 61 years of marriage in Aug. of 2004.
Mary was employed part time at BOCES main office in Bath, also at the Bath Drive-In Theater and was a seasonal employee the New York State Fish Hatchery in Bath.
While a resident of Savona, Mary was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Campbell, then later after moving to Bath in 1958 she became an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she served on the rosary and alter society, a den mother for the church sponsored cub scout pack and other church activities.
Mary enjoyed putting together puzzles and was an avid reader, but most of all enjoyed being with her family especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by son, George C. Hauryski of Bath; daughter, Betty Hanssen and her husband, David of Sterling, MA; son, Edwin and his wife, Colleen of Bath; former daughter-in-law, Susan Hauryski of Bath; six grandchildren, Michele Hauryski of Bath, Annie Hanssen of Worcester, MA, Christina, Brittany, Alexander and Matthew Hauryski all of Bath; on great granddaughter, Emma Hauryski of Bath; one sister, Bertha Romat of Horseheads; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was also predeceased by her infant son in 1959; brothers, Michael, Joseph, Stanley and Anthony; and sisters Rosalie Polmanteer, Anne Lencicki and Sophia Warner.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at St. Mary’s Church in Bath with Reverend James Jaeger presider assisted by Deacon Dave Lafortune. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Bath. Arrangements by Fagan's Funeral Home of Bath.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 110 East Steuben Street, Bath, NY 14810. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center for the wonderful care given Mary while she was there.
