Shirley E. Ribble, age 70, of Bradford, NY, passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. Shirley was born in Prattsburgh, NY, on Jan. 14, 1940, to David LeRoy and Jesse May (Houghtaling) Thompson. She has been married to her loving husband, Clifford Ribble, Jr., for 54 years.
Shirley retired from Corning Incorporated where she served as a quality control manufacturer in the Corelle division. Shirley had a love for the outdoors and was loved by many.
Along with her husband, Cliff, Shirley is survived by one daughter, Gloria (Douglas) LaRue; and four sons, James (Chris) Ribble, John (Laurie) Ribble, Sr., Jeffrey (Donna) and Carl (Nikki) Ribble. Shirley was a very special mother to her granddaughters, Billie Jo (Jordan Butler) Ribble, Angela (Gavin) Ribble and Andrea (Dylan) Ribble. She is also survived by three sisters, JoAnn Smalt, Joan Hough and Linda (Dick) Swarts; and two brothers, David Thompson, Jr. and Billie (Elaine) Thompson. Shirley has several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her grandson, Jeffery Ribble, Jr., predeceased her. Her sisters, Kathy Davis and Jerrie Gordan; brother, Lester Thompson, and two brothers-in-law, Harold Smalt and Bill Hough also predeceased Shirley.
Calling hours were held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street, Corning. A funeral service was held at 12 noon Friday, Sept. 3 at the funeral home with Reverend Michael Spencer officiating. Burial and committal will be in Seamen’s Cemetery in Savona, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or the American Liver Association, 75 Maiden Lane Suite 603, New York, NY 10038.
