Dortha S. Celmens, age 92, passed away Thursday, July 8 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility. She was born July 17, 1917 in Geneva, NY to Spencer and Edith Slingerland; graduated from Southside High School and Elmira Business Institute both in Elmira, NY.
Dortha married Clarence H. Clemens on Nov. 19, 1939. They had three children, Charles (Jan) Clemens of Elmira Heights, NY, William (Candace) Clemens of Allegany, NY and Deborah Clemens of Campbell, NY. She is survived by her three children; four grandchildren, Carrie Clemens of Glouster, VA, Elizabeth Clemens-Sharp of Richmond, VA, Kristen Clemens-Keenan of Hinsdale, NY and Michelle Clemens of Allegany, NY; four great grandchildren, Carly Keenan, Gavin Clemens, Parker Keenan and Margaret Sharp.
Dortha was predeceased by her husband, parents and grandson SSG Shawn M. Clemens.
A Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dortha's name may be made to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 122 Liberty Street, Bath, NY 14810 or the SSG Shawn Clemen's Scholarship Fund, Allegany-Limestone Central School, Five Mile Road, Allegany, NY 14706.
