Lawrence D. Murray, Jr., age 84, of Bath, NY, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at home. He was born May 18, 1928, in Addison, NY the son of Lawrence Sr. and Ellen Murray. Mr. Murray retired from Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport, NY as Treasurer, after 42 years of service. He was on the Board of Directors at Mercury Aircraft. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Bath, the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 in Bath and the Bath B.P.O.E. 1547. Mr. Murray was a former Mayor of Bath and Bath Village Trustee.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Laurie) Murray of Hammondsport, NY and Mark (Dawn) Murray of Bath, NY; five grandchildren, Ryan (Anna) Murray of MS, Michael Murray of Astoria, NY, David Murray of Seattle, WA, Lindsey Glover of Ithaca, NY and Megan Wells of Olean, NY; one great grandchild, Morgan Murray; niece and nephews, Dan (Susan) Champlain and Bryan and Shelby Champlain and his caregivers, Helen Lynk, Tammy Dowdle, Cindy Burnett, Nancy Palmer, Mary White and Darlene Guerin. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Murray; and granddaughter, Jennifer Jackson.
Friends called from 1-3 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath. A Memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 30 at St. Mary’s Church in Bath with Father Jim Jaeger as celebrant assisted by Deacon Dave Lafortune.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes Humane Society, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, NY 14810.
