Katherine Dudley Walters, age 97, passed on peacefully Feb. 24, 2010 in her Ohio home in Sunrise of Shaker Heights Senior Living.
Katherine began her career teaching in a one-room country school. Those were the days when teachers lived in the homes of their students for weeks at a time before rotating to another household. Later in Bath she taught students in the fourth and fifth grades until 1967. She remembered her students fondly and told stories about her "awfully nice kids" well into her nineties.
Her husband of 32 years, Wilson G. Walters, preceded her in death as well as her brother, William; sisters, Barbara and Jane (Paul) Newth; and half-brother, Frederick.
Katherine is survived by her half sister, Nancy (Robert) Thomen; nieces, Kathy (Carl) Wendorff, Anne Cain, Mary (Albert) Redway; nephews, George Newth and Christian Dudley; and grandnieces and grandnephews. She is also survived by stepson, Thomas Walters; step-grandsons, Thomas (Mary) Walters II and Ian Walters; and step-granddaughters, Caroline, Julia, Meghan and Rebecca Walters.
A Potluck celebration of Katherine's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 at the Lake Country Estate Clubhouse, Cedar Street, Bath, NY with Reverend David Wolcott officiating. Private burial at Nondoga cemetary will precede the service.
Arrangements will be handled by Bond-Davis Funeral Home.
