Evered E. Burk, age 75, of Prattsburgh, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Thursday, July 22, 2010, with his family by his side.
He was born in the Town of Jerusalem on October 6, 1934 to the late Charles and Mary (Prosser) Burk. Evie attended Branchport and Penn Yan schools and then went to work on his family’s farm. He retired from Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport in 1989 and was often found working alongside his son in the family-run Prattsburgh Hardware store. He was a proud member of the Prattsburgh Protectives Fire Department for 35 loyal years.
Evie will be remembered as a man with a quiet nature who enjoyed hunting with his son and playing euchre with his brother. He was dedicated to his family and will be truly missed.
Evered is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Stephanie Burke; his beloved grandsons, Brian and Zachary Burke; his brother, Lyle Burke; sister-in-law, Virginia Burk (wife of Evered’s late brother, Kenneth Burk); and several nieces and nephews. He always held close to his heart the memory of his wife, Phyllis (Tyler) Burk, with whom he shared a blessed union for over 25 years prior to her passing in 1985.
Visitation for Evered was held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 26 at Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic Street, Prattsburgh.
A Celebration of Life service was held immediately following, with the Rev. Barb Gifford officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Prattsburgh Protectives, PO Box 356, Prattsburgh, NY or to the Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care Assn. by visiting their website online at hpcanys.org 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830. Friends and family are encouraged to leave rememberances and sign his guestbook by visiting us online at townsendwoodfuneralchapel.com.
