Jan Uipkes, age 80, died at Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY on July 26, 2010. The cause was cardiac failure.
Born Aug. 29, 1929, in the Netherlands, he lived in Cherry Hill, NJ before retiring in Hammondsport. He worked as VP of Operations at Philips Lighting until 1995, where he devoted much of his life to his career. Jan enjoyed reading, socializing with close friends on Keuka Lake and travelling with his wife Sheila.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sheila; step daughter, Jennifer; grandchildren, Alex and Sofia; sister Dedy and brother-in-lawm Jaap; brother, Peter and sister-in-law, Ria; best friend, Tony Kazules; as well as several nieces and nephews. Jan also leaves behind his beloved longtime canine companion, Sir Hendricks. Jan was preceded in death by his mother; father; and former canine companion, Grizly.
Private Services were held from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, July 31 at the Uipkes residence in Hammondsport. Relatives and friends were welcome.
