On February 21, 2013 with his three girls at his side, Howard M. Nichols joined his loving wife, Eloise (Talbot) Nichols who predeceased him on Feb. 11, 2007 and his son Donald O. Nichols who predeceased him on Feb. 11, 2012.
Howard was born the eldest son of Claude and Erma (Curry) Nichols on November 12, 1920, both deceased.
Howard was also predeceased by his grandson, Jeffery W. Solosky; great granddaughters, Brittney and Ashley; brothers, Larry and Lavern; sisters Isabelle and Vivian.
He is survived by his daughters, Janis Campbell of Hammondsport, Sharon Nichols of Bath and Mary Kay (Doug) Osborne of Hammondsport; sisters, Elinor Henshan of Rochester and Phyllis Harris of FL. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Don Nichols Jr., John Solosky, Jenise Bentle, Jamie Agor, Jodie King, Bill Agor, Christie Cook, Corey Agor, Sharise Cummings and Cody Cook; 20 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving him are brother and sister in laws; Jack, Dale (Doris), Keith, Frye, Jim, Max, Katherine, Betty and Ruth; along with many nieces, nephews and friends, and good friend Dale Cayward.
Howard served as a truck driver during World War II stationed in Central Europe where he earned a EA METO medal and a good conduct medal.
Howard retired from Mercury Aircraft after 33 years of active service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and building all sorts of wood items in his shop. He also enjoyed tending his vegetable gardens.
A graveside service with full military honors was held at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Nondaga Cemetery.
