Attendees at the meet-the-candidate event in Hornell recently witnessed a clear difference between Assembly candidates. Steve Kula demonstrated concise responses and constructive solutions. His opponent parroted the same tired “politically correct” nonsense that we continually hear from career politicians.
The decision for Republican primary voters is well defined. Phil Palmesano’s entire working life is as a facilitator for professional politicians. That kind of experience is exactly the reason that the present cycle of dysfunctional government is perpetuated. Steve Kula is not only refreshing, but he does not have any IOUs to party bosses.
New York state is in a dire financial mess. Kula supports an across-the-board reduction in the cost of government, while encouraging private sector business and job creation. According to his website, Palmesano desires a decrease in state budgets, however he wants to “limit year-to-year increases to no more than 4 percent.” Taxpayers cannot afford more bureaucracy or taxes. Kula is committed to cut back excessive government by eliminating entire ineffective, and unnecessary agencies and authorities.
Republicans need to stand on principle. Loyalty to a political machine produces continuous, failed legislation. The 136 Assembly District has the opportunity to elect Kula - a trustworthy representative.
