HORSEHEADS — Horseheads picked up a win in its last game of the season, as the Blue Raiders defeated Johnson City on 52-44 on Thursday.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter in the first quarter, but the Blue Raiders battled back to cut the lead to one at halftime, 28-27.
After an even third quarter, Horseheads tightened up its defense.
The Blue Raiders only allowed Johnson City six points in the fourth quarter.
Allison and Jenna Richmond netted 13 of the 16 points for the to lead the Blue Raiders in the final frame.
“Johnson City jumped out to an early lead, but the girls didn’t give up tonight,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “We played great defense down the stretch and Kendal cook hit a big three late for us, gotta give credit to the girls tonight.”
Allison finished with 17 points to lead the Blue Raiders and sister Jenna added 16 points.
Vivian Ladd netted 15 points for Johnson City.
Horseheads finishes with a 10-10 record and will travel to Binghamton to play the Patriots in the first round of the Section IV Class AA tournament on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
Horseheads has come up short against Binghamton twice this season by a combined total of six points.
“It’s good to get the momentum going in to the postseason with a win,” said Scott. “We’re looking forward to playing Binghamton.”
