CORNING - The Hawks picked up their first win of the season with a 56-8 rout of Ithaca Friday at Memorial Stadium. Corning rushed for 407 yards in the contest.
Corning (1-3) scored on offense and defense while generating a 21-8 lead after one quarter.
The Hawks got TD runs from Cian Collins (1-yard) and Jason Rodriguez (33 yards), while Adam Zingler added a 13-yard interception return for a score.
Ithaca’s lone score came on a screen pass that became a 75-yard touchdown pass from Mason Boothe to Mike Jones.
Corning’s defense tightened and its offense continued to roll in the second quarter as the Hawks added 22 points.
Corning got TD runs of 9 yards from Rodriguez, 27 yards from Ja’Ovian Fisher and 33 from Collins. The Hawks’ defense added two points when Ithaca quarterback Boothe had to bat a bad snap out of the end zone for a safety.
The Hawks added touchdown runs of 6 yards from Brendyn Hogue and 2 yards from Josh Naylor in the second half. Hogue also picked off an Ithaca pass.
Fisher led Corning with 120 yards rushing on nine carries, while Zach Jamison tallied 87 yards and Rodriguez 72 yards. Owen Gudenrath pulled down a pass for 35 yards for the Hawks.
Ithaca completed 13 passes for 175 yards, while the Little Red running offense was held to negative yards on the night.
