CORNING - Corning won eight of 12 events on its way to a 105-62 win over Elmira at home on Thursday.
Yushi Portwood was a triple winner for the Hawks in the 200 yard medley relay (2:22.14) and the 100 yard butterfly (59.76) as well as a part of Corning’s 200 yard medley relay team that also included Gabe Palacio, Roger Liu and Domenic Palumbo that finished in 1:54.46.
Owen Fisher, Liu, Ethan Banks and Jerry Hou won the 200 yard freestyle relay for the Hawks in 1:42.33.
Picking up singles victories for Corning included Cal Bartone, who won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:05.26, Ethan Kang, who touched first in the 50 yard freestyle (24.89), Joe Brucie won the 100 yard freestyle (56.82) and Hou took first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:51.94)
“There is a lot of young talent on the team, and we are impressed with their motivation and hard work,” Corning head coach Alyssa Helsing said. “They have been pushing themselves in practice and in meets, and as a result we are already seeing in-season best times and scores.”
For the Express, Theo Summerville won the diving portion with a score of 220.95 as well as the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:19.90. Kevin Briggs picked up the other singles win for Elmira in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:09.56.
The team of John Gough, Briggs, Zach Ringer and Zach Pack took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:36.34.
Corning will host Ithaca on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in its next contest, while Elmira will travel to Vestal on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
