ELMIRA - The Express got past the Blue Raiders in front of a capacity crowd at Elmira High School on Monday, 59-41 in a STAC boys basketball contest

The Express got out to quick 12-0 lead on the strength of buckets from Dan Fedor, Bryce Mattison, James Cade and Luke Baldwin.

The Blue Raiders responded with a 9-4 run to end the quarter on two baskets from Mike Limoncelli, a triple from Andrew McLaughlin and a score from Hayden Robinson.

Lew Clearwater and and Nate VanBrunt scored back-to-back baskets to pull Horseheads within three points at 16-13 to start the second quarter, but Cade came back with a bucket to extend Elmira's lead.

Horseheads pulled to within two points a couple of minutes later after two baskets from VanBrunt and one from Clearwater at 20-18.

Once again, the Express retaliated with a six point run on a layup and two free-throws from Mattison and one free-throw from Cade.

Clearwater drilled a three-pointer to pull the Blue Raiders to within 26-21 at halftime.

The Express took control after the break, outscoring Horseheads 33-20 in the second half and 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

Nahjor Mack scored 16 of his game high 17 points in the second half for Elmira.

Clearwater scored 10 of Horseheads' 20 second half points.
