Corning will be well represented at the Section IV Division I wrestling championships at Binghamton University Saturday, including three number one seeds in their respective weight classes.
Matt Kline at 145 pounds sports a 33-1 record heading in the tournament after taking home a sectional championship last season at 152 pounds, Chase Daudelin at 126 pounds holds a 24-4 record and Drew Witham at 113 pounds boasts a record is 31-2 as the Hawks other top seed.
"They're all going to have good tournaments," Corning head coach Cameron Daudelin said. "They have some tough kids in their class, but I think all three of them will come out on top."
Other Hawks wrestlers that are top-five seeds in the tournament include Thomas O'Connor at 285 pounds (third), Ethan Hart at 106 pounds (fourth) and David Rowe at 182 pounds (fifth).
"I expect them all to have really nice tournaments," said Daudelin. "We have two seniors (O'Connor and Rowe) up there, and I think they'll all place in the tournament.
Horseheads has three number one seeds including Devin Woodworth at 120 pounds (29-0 record), Jesse Johnson at 160 pounds (25-6 record) and Chris Eames at 170 pounds (27-3 record).
Additional top-five seeds for the Blue Raiders include Tommy Dale at 99 pounds (second), Latimer Audinwood (second) and Zach Levey (third) at 106 pounds, Jacob Scibek at 132 pounds (second), Calum Houper at 113 pounds (second), Jarrett O’Connell at 138 pounds (third), Serfino Menard at 145 pounds (third), Jack Massengale at 126 pounds (fourth), Bailey Butler at 152 pounds (fifth) and Andrew Nolan at 220 pounds (fifth).
The Express have three top seeds including Blake Brooks at 106 pounds (23-10 record), Matt Reese at 132 pounds (25-6 record) and Charlie Mahon at 182 pounds (22-4).
Ben Howe at 138 pounds (second), Micah Carpenter at 145 pounds (second), Luke Stoner at 152 pounds (second), Garret Andriene at 160 pounds (second), Donovan Smith (third) and Mason Cardinale (fourth) at 99 pounds, Lucas Riley at 113 pounds (third) Ryan Mahon at 126 pounds (third), John Robyck at 220 pounds (fourth) and Naudakis Sessoms at 170 pounds (fifth) are the other top-five seeded competitiors for Elmira.
Wrestling starts at 10:00 a.m. Saturday on 4 mats with the Semi-Finals at 12:30 p.m. and the Championship Finals at approximately 6:30 p.m.
