VESTAL - The Corning Hawks won a Section IV Class A bowling title on Saturday at Midway Lanes with team scores of 889, 1,006, and a 947 (2,842 total) for the first time since 2015. Binghamton finished second in Class A with a team score of 2,671 and Elmira took third with 2,660.

Derik Lisi was highest in Section 4 Class A with a 652 (221, 236, 195) and second of all 33 teams in Class A, B, C, and D. Brandyn Greene from Greene was highest on the day with a 669.

"Derik was fantastic today," Corning head coach Eric Kizis said. "He made many incredible shots and showed great composure. He truly gave us all he had today."

Hunter Crouch had the second high series for Corning with a 568 and games of 174, 181, and a 213. Alex Chang had a 563, games of 163, 211, and 189. Freshman, Isaiah Beschler, who has only bowled in nine out of 33 varsity games this season subbed in for the second and third games and shot a 186 and a 195.

"We lost four very good bowlers, Anthony Evans, Dakota Glosser, John Pabis, and Lucas Lott, due to graduation, so this was a well earned championship by this team," Kizis said. "In the 8 years I have been in this program, I have never seen a group of kids improve and come together as these boys have this season.  Their commitment to the sport and one another is remarkable."

The Hawks will now bowl in state qualifiers Friday Feb 16th at Waverly to earn a trip to states in Syracuse the weekend of March 10th. Today's scores carry over for the state qualifiers.
