CORNING - Corning Community College defeated the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday 62-48.

Down 31-29 at half, the Red Barons outscored the Lakers 33-17 in the final two quarters including 18-7 in the fourth quarter to take home the win.

Mackenzie Warner led Corning with a triple double with 12 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. Taylor Sutryk added 17 points and Emily Smith chipped in 12 points.

Corning improves to 8-13 with the win and will host Broome Community College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Watkins Glen bowls well at Section IV Class C tournament

MIDWAY - The Watkins Glen girls finished fourth in the Section IV Class C bowling tournament on Saturday at midway lanes and the boys took home

On the girls side, Susquehanna Valley was first with 2,305 total pins followed by Windsor (2,249), Chenango Valley (2,214) and Watkins Glen had 2,096.

Nikole Van Dyke led the Senecas with a 463 series (148, 140, 175), Hayley Cornish had a 438 series (126, 167, 145) and Nancy Jackson added a 409 series.

"I am very proud of the way the girls battled on a very tough oil pattern," Watkins Glen head coach Ward Brower said.

On the boys side, Watkins Glen finished seventh with 2,262 total pins. Susquehanna Valley took first with 2,583 total pins followed by Sidney (2,512), Union Springs-Port Byron (2,494) and Tioga (2,406).

Conlin Wysocki led the Senecas with a 481 series (158, 181, 142), Wrett Brower had a 479 series (145, 184, 150) and H. Nathaniel Rose added a 458 series (175, 128, 155).

Steuben County boys basketball tournament

Addison 60, Avoca 56

BATH - No.2 Addison edged No.3 Avoca 60-56 in the semi-finals of the Steuben County Tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter on 10 points from Evan Reppert.

Danny Ames had 12 points on four 3-pointers as Addison outscored Avoca 20-12 in second quarter to take a 29-28 lead at the break.

The Knights outscored the Tigers 31-28 over the next 16 minutes to secure the victory.

Ames had 28 points for Addison and Adam Chilson chipped in 12 points.

Reppery led Avoca with 20 points and Nathan Nunn added eight points.

Addison will play Prattsburgh on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the finals.

Prattsburgh 71, Hammondsport 42

BATH - No. 1 seeded Prattsburgh got offensive in its 71-42 win over No.4 seeded Hammondsport on Saturday in the Steuben County Tournament.

The Vikings outscored the Lakers 24-17 in the first 16 minutes and never looked back.

Mason Putnam netted 23 points for Prattsburgh and Garrett Socola added 17 points.

Cameron root led the Lakers with 13 points and Parker Watson contributed nine points.

Prattsburgh will play Addison on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the finals.

 Bradford 65, Canisteo-Greenwood 37

BRADFORD - Bradford used a strong first half to top Canisteo-Greenwood 65-37 in the Steuben County Tournament on Saturday.

The Braves came out of the gates on fire, scoring 41 points in the first 16 minutes with Nick Bailey netting 14 points and Nate Barber chipping in 11 points.

"Everything was clicking today," Bradford head coach Mark LaBarr said. "(Nick) Bailey and (Steven) Spina kept Canisteo’s defense tight on the outside with the 3 point threat which opened up Barber and Lucas under the basket. "

Bradford’s defense held the Redskins to just 12 points in the first half and never looked back.

Steven Spina led the Braves with 18 points, Barber had 13 points and Ben Lucas added 10 points.

LCAA girls basketball

Bath 61, Dansville 58

BATH - Bath traveled to Dansville and came away with a narrow 61-58 victory on Friday.

Dansvillle started off quickly, leading 33-20 at halftime and found themselves up by as many as 16 points in the first half.

"I told the girls at halftime to work to get their lead down to single digits by the fourth quarter," Bath head coach Randy Abrams said.

The Rams proceeded to outscore the Mustangs 21-11 in the third quarter to cut the lead to only four points.

Bath kept its momentum going in the fourth, outscoring Dansville 19-13 to pick up the win.

"I am really proud of the girls for not giving up," said Abrams. "This was a heck of a win."

Jaydn Abrams led the Rams with 31 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Jourdan Machuga added 12 points and Mackenna Taggart chipped in 10 points.

Grace Rittenhouse had 18 points for Dansville.

Bath improves to 12-6 and will host Pavillion on Monday.
