DANSVILLE - No. 6 seeded Bradford topped No. 2 seeded Belfast 60-47 on Monday in the semifinals of the Section V Class D2 Tournament to earn its first trip the the sectional finals in the history of the program.
Nate Barber got the Braves off to a good start in the first quarter, netting all of Bradford's points for a 10-8 lead after eight minutes.
Bradford extended its lead to 25-20 at the break on the strength of two Steven Spina 3-pointers and one Kobe Wakenan triple in the second quarter.
Defense was the key in the second half as the Braves outscored Belfast 35-27 in the final 16 minutes that included a 16-4 run in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.
"The way our defense is playing right now we think we can play anyone and it showed again tonight," Bradford head coach Mark LaBarr said. It was a complete team effort tonight!"
Barber had 20 points to lead the Braves and Spina added 16 points including four 3-pointers.
Bradford will play the winner of No. 1 seeded Prattsburgh and No. 5 seeded Avoca on March 3 at Blue Cross Arena in the finals.
