HORSEHEADS - The Blue Raiders used a strong second quarter to top Binghamton 16-9 on Monday under rainy conditions in Horseheads.

"Both teams embraced the weather and had a fun, old school game today," Horseheads head coach Jason Neubauer said.

Horseheads led 5-2 after one quarter before outscoring the Patriots 8-0 in the second, a quarter that included three man-up goals for the Blue Raiders.

"They took a couple penalties in the second and we captitalized," Neubauer said.

The Blue Raiders had 11 assists on their 16 goals on the day.

"The kids made unselfish passes and looked for eachother," said Neubauer. "We produce more goals when we play that way. We played good team ball today."

Jack Peterson led Horseheads with six goals, Gavin Elston had four goals and two assists and Dawson Felenchak and Nate Gee each added three goals. Gee chipped in four assists and Felenchak posted three assists.

Quintin Buchanan had seven saves in goal and Joe Chaborek stopped two shots for the Blue Raiders.

For Binghamton, Wyatt Merta had three goals and Ed Baker added two goals and two assists.

K.C. Medinoski had nine saves for the Patriots.

Horseheads (3-4) will battle Union-Endicott on Wednesday with the time and location to be determined.
