HORNELL - No. 3 seeded Avoca topped No. 2 seeded Arkport/Caneseraga 12-1 Thursday in Hornell in the Section V Class D2 semifinals.
Nate O’Brachta tossed seven innings and had five strikeouts for the Tigers.
"After the first inning, he was lights out," Avoca head coach Joe Wallace said. "He was hitting his spots. they are a good hitting team and to keep them to one run is good. It was an impressive games. One of the best performances I’ve seen from him."
Offensively, Noah Hughes, Austin Reppert, O’Brachta and Marcus Hopkins all registered two hits. Evan Reppert and Cameron Giglio added single hits.
"We had a gameplan going in," said Wallace. We swung at good pitches and hit solid line drives."
Avoca will advance to the Section V Class D2 finals Saturday at Noon against either No. 1 seeded Belfast or No. 4 seeded Scio.
Campbell-Savona 6, Lyons 0
CAMPBELL-SAVONA - Campbell-Savona softball defeated Lyons 6-0 in the Section IV quarter-final game in Campbell-Savona Wednesday.
“It was a well played game on both sides,” said Campbell-Savona coach Chris Austin.
Ivy Philip went 2-4 for Campbell-Savona, including a double and a run scored. Calysca Payne went 1-3 with a huge two out, two RBI single for the Panthers.
Jordan Cole went 2-4 with two runs scored and a triple. She also went a full seven innings on the mound, fanning eleven.
Campbell-Savona will play again at 6 p.m in Livonia No. 2 Warsaw
