WELLSVILLE - Wellsville go past Haverling 106-70 Thursday in a non-league swimming matchup.

Tori Cleveland (200 freestyle; 2:18.7), and Bethany Smith (diving; 140.9) earned individual wins for the Rams. MacKenna Taggart was a double winner for Haverling in the 50 free (27.5) and the 100 fly (1:07.8).

Lauren Staba was a double winner for the Lions in the 200 individual medly (2:38.2) and the 500 freestyle (6:07.7).

Emma Kinnicutt (100 free; 1:02.9), Taylor Hurd (100 backstroke; 1:19.4) and Hayden Waldon (100 breaststroke; 1:25.7) earned individual wins.

Haverling will host a Varsity Duel in the pool Saturday at 10 a.m.

Corning 6, Elmira 1

CORNING - Corning defeated Elmira 6-1 on Thursday at home in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls tennis matchup.

Riley Davis earned a win in first singles (6-0, 6-3), Abby Wente picked up a win sin second singles (6-2, 6-2) and Elizabeth Green won in fourth singles (6-2, 6-1).

Ashley Ross earned Elmira’s lone win in third singles, 6-0, 6-1.

The Hawks swept doubles play with the pairs of Sydney Wood & Mia Colonna (6-1, 6-1); Jessica Pesansky & Esha Soni (6-1, 6-0) and Erin Austin & Darien Beall (6-1, 6-3) taking victories.

Corning improves to 5-2 with the win and will host Johnson City today at 4 p.m.

STAC golf

Corning 195, Elmira 237

CORNING - Corning got past Elmira 195-237 to improve to 8-3 on the season Thursday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference golf contest.

Jairam Hathwar and Tyler Thomas were co-medalists for Corning, with each carding a 36.

Drew Beall added a 40, Ben Tubbs had a 41 and Carson Crane chipped in a 42 for the Hawks.

For Elmira, Jacob Barnes had a 38 followed by Reilly Hooper (39), Brock Ohart (40), Brady Magliocca (59) and Alex Simmons (61).

 

 

LCAA boys soccer

Haverling 6, Dansville 1

BATH - Haverling extended its winning streak to seven games with a 6-1 win over Dansville Thursday in a Livingston County Athletic Association boys soccer matchup.

Nick Strong had two goals and Jordan Deets, Thomas Becken, Austin Stratton and Evan Czajkowski had goals for the Rams, who were up 3-0 at halftime.

"The first half was the best half of soccer we’ve played all season," Haverling head coach Matt Hill said. "We used a lot of different guys and it’s always a good thing when that happens."

The Rams outshot the Mustangs 25-4 in the contest.

Griffin Yastremski had four saves and Nick Camuto recorded 11 saves.

Haverling will travel to Wayland-Cohocton today at 5 p.m.

STAC volleyball

Corning 3, Binghamton 2

CORNING - Corning topped Binghamton in five sets Wednesday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference volleyball matchup.

The Hawks won by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-27, 24-26 and 25-16.

"In game three and four we had opportunities," Corning head coach Irene Furness saif. "Our girls came back game 5 and our girls took control and never looked back."

Sadie Sharkey had 20 kills, 12 digs and three aces to lead the Hawks.

Lauren Ball had 13 kills, four aces, three blocks and six digs, Olivia Tanneberger added 11 kills. an ace, two blocks and two digs. Taylor Slaven chipped in 12 kills, two aces and seven digs. Rihanne Nickerson added 25 setter assists and Maddy Gorges had 21 set assists.

For Binghamton, Shannon Perna had 19 kills and 13 digs, Bailee Jones contributed 18 kills and 10 digs and Clare Atkinson had 37 setter assits.

Corning improves to 5-0 with the win and will travel to Horseheads Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
