BATH - The Rams used a strong second half to top the Prattsburgh 46-31 in the finals of the 16th annual Lady Rams Roundball Classic Saturday in Bath.

Down 10-7 after eight minutes, the Haverling defense held Prattsburgh-Avoca to just 21 points in the next three quarters including only four in the third.

"We were slow coming out of the gate, but put together a nice middle of the 3rd into the middle of the 4th quarter run which gave us a breathing room," Haverling head coach Randy Abrams said.

Cadin Taggart led the charger for Haverling, registering 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.

"I challenged sophomore Cadin to work on the glass in this game and she responded," Abrams said.

After being shut out in the first half in scoring, Abby Speiss was Haverling's second leading scorer with 11 points.

Jourdan Machuga had eight points for the Rams, Danielle Ward added five points, eight rebounds and two steals and Morgan Burns chipped in five points and eight rebounds.

Lucia D'Arpino recorded 18 points to lead Prattsburgh-Avoca.

"We won’t have long to enjoy the championship, but it was a great way to start the season," said Abrams.

Haverling improves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Newark Valley Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its next contest. Prattsburgh-Avoca falls to 1-1 and will face Jasper-Troupsburg on the road Wednesday.
