A local business and bank in Bath teamed up this year to bring some season's greeting to area children. Five Star Bank 's 11th annual "Santa's Day Off" got some assistance Thursday from Machuga Contractors, Inc. which brought the toys in a construction loader. The drive took place at the bank from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., and toys will be distributed through the Bath Kiwanis Club.

Christmas Season Activities

Festivals in Bath, Hammondsport and Savona highlighted Christmas season activities this weekend, but more is in store for those looking for a boost to their Christmas spirits.
Craft classes and storytelling are slated throughout the area during the next two weeks.
Local charities are hoping the season of giving extends to those less fortunate in our area.
Catholic Charities Turning Point is launching the 2012 Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program. This year has been especially difficult for numerous families in our local community, given the current economy, according to the agency. Their “Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program” offers others the chance to help a family, or donate to the program. For more information contact Tammy VanVleck at 607-776-4575 ext. 214.
And don’t forget the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive, with bell ringers stationed at Kmart and Tops in Bath.
Both agencies support local families and local needs. Events in the area slated to begin next week and runs through Dec. 22 are:
• Crafty Kids: The Cohocton Public Library is hosting a free craft day for parents/caregivers and their children 10 am to 7 pm. every Thursday. This week Snowman Soup is ready for a stir; with Make Your Own Christmas Tree slated for Dec. 20.
• The Savona Free Library will offer a holiday preschool story hour for children ages 3-5 from 6-7 p.m. Monday. The program will include stories, crafts and snacks. Preregistration is requested by calling the library.
• Christmas Open House at the Dormann Library will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. and pictures with Santa will be $2. The Haverling Concert Choir under the direction of Neil Bryson will be performing at 6:30 p.m. There will be a visit from the lighted Bath fire truck, crafts for the children. There will be refreshments. The public is welcome at this festive annual event.
• The Prattsburg Free Library invites children to make a photo cube for themselves or a gift from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the library. Snacks, fun and a prize for the most creative will be available. This program is free.
