For folks of a certain age, the years will slip away on December 1 as Jack Taggart recreates the days and the music of Woodhull's Old-Tyme Masters.
The presentation will be at approximately 1:15 December 1 in Painted Post Methodist-Presbyterian Church, following the annual luncheon and business meeting of Steuben County Historical Society.
The Woodhull Boys, as they were also known, were a wildly-popular regional band playing what was then known as country, western, or "hillbilly" music. Crowds of western New Yorkers stomped and stepped to the band's refrains from the 1930s through the 1960s... including, for much of that time, every Saturday night at the Old Barn in Elmira Heights.
Jack Taggart, whose father was one of the Old-Tyme Masters, will tell tales, show memorabilia, and play tapes copied from the band's old 78rpm records (skips and scratches and all)... listeners are invited to share their own stories.
The luncheon is by reservation, but the presentation is free and open to the public.
