Fremont’s tax rate for next year will be slightly smaller than this year’s, after the town board adopted its 2013 budget during a meeting last week.
In a 4-0 vote, the board passed the budget, which features a tax levy of $515,147.
The town’s 2013 tax rate will be about $8.99 per $1,000 of assessed value, compared to this year’s rate of roughly $9 per $1,000, according to Thomas Flansburg, town supervisor.
“There’s basically no change,” he said.
Revenue generated by property re-evaluations and a mild winter, which saved money in fuel and overtime costs, contributed to the slight decrease in taxes, according to Flansburg. He said he is happy with the 2013 budget, especially with the way the economy is.
“Just to keep taxes the same, I think it’s a good deal,” he said. “A lot of these towns had to override the two percent tax cap, so we fortunately didn’t have to do that in Fremont.”
In other action, the board announced it will interview five candidates for the town’s code enforcement officer position at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the town hall at 8223 Cream Hill Road.
