It may be a little longer before residents in the Buck Meadows development learn who is responsible for maintaining their roads.
After a lengthy executive session on two issues at the regularly scheduled Bath Town board meeting Monday, town Supervisor Marcia Burns told Buck Meadows residents the town has reached a verbal agreement with the developer.
Burns said she could not say what the verbal agreement entailed, adding only the board would wait for the written agreement.
It’s been a long process for residents in the development, who have complained for months about deteriorating street conditions there.
Homeowners in Buck Meadows want their roads maintained by the town, which has sanded and plowed the roads in the past in order to allow school buses to pick up children.
But the town holds the roads are private and should be maintained by the owner, H & H Development.
Town officials said they have held several meetings so far with concerned parties to negotiate an arrangement on plowing and sanding the roads, and had hoped to have the matter resolved by Monday’s meeting.
But a verbal agreement is not enough, Burns said.
“Ah, I want it in writing,” Burns said. “In writing.”
Burns said in the event of snowstorms, the town will plow the roads, pending a final agreement.
