The first annual Taste of Haverling Community Cook-off turned out to be a great late winter community get-together at Haverling Central School’s High School gymnasium.  Organized as a fundraiser by the Freshmen Class of 2016, local restaurants, civic groups, businesses, and school groups participated in a cook-off competition, and the winners were the ticket purchasing general public.
Tickets to the event were sold by the members of the Freshman class.  At just $15, ticket holders could sample the contest entries from the 10 participating organizations.  Most ticket holders later shared that they received more than a full meal’s worth of samples during the event which took place Wednesday evening from 6- 8 p.m.
Prizes were given in three different cooking categories:
BEST SOUP:  The Liberty Street Pub
BEST CHILI:  The Family Life Network
BEST APPETIZER:  The Haverling Teacher’s Association
In addition to the cook-off event, the class also held a silent auction to raise additional funds.  Over 20 unique items were donated by community businesses and local individuals.
Class Advisor Rick Bates wished to thank the community of Bath for such generous support of the event.  He judged by the many comments he received that The Taste of Haverling will not only become an annual event for the foreseeable future, but that next year’s event will by all indications be a much larger event.
