Grey's Anatomy topped Thursday after hitting a series low last week.

The drama drew 9.1 million viewers and 2.9 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, up three-tenths from last week. Along with the season premiere of Wife Swap (5 million, 1.7) and Scandal (8.6 million, 2.7), which was even with its last new episode a month ago, ABC tied Fox for No. 1 in the demo.

Grey's edged out American Idol (11.6 million, 2.8) in the demo, which fell three-tenths from last week. Lead-out Glee (5.6 million, 2.0) was flat.

NBC's whole lineup hit series lows and the network was beaten in the 8 o'clock hour by The Vampire Diaries (2.5 million, 1.2), which rose a tenth. Beauty and the Beast (1.8 million, 0.7) grew two-tenths.

CBS' coverage of March Madness averaged 4.7 million viewers and a 1.6, down a tenth from last year's first night. NCAA Tournament coverage across all networks, CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV, was up 4 percent.
