  • The second annual Fund for Women fundraising dinner-lecture raised a record $45,000 for the organization, the group has announced. With the money, the group’s endowment has grown to more than $500,000. Since its founding, FFW has distributed more than $110,000 to girls, women and organizations in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties.
The group exists to help girls and women achieve economic self-sufficiency and realize life goals through grants for education, health, wellness, career and life skills. “We have all worked tenaciously to build upon the vision of Rachel Wood, who founded the Fund for Women in 2009 to help girls and women build better lives,” said Penny Gregg, the president of the FFW board of directors. “This year’s fundraiser was held May 21 at the Corning Museum of Glass. Nearly 300 guests attended the event, which featured keynote speaker Heather Briccetti, the president and CEO of the Business Council of New York.
This year’s grants will be awarded during a reception from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Big Flats Community Center. The public is invited to attend.
